Perhaps Kerr should read those StrengthsFinder books... the greatest takeaway from these would be to continually develop your strengths (SSOL aka run-and-fun, player tendencies) to reach levels of excellence, and improving your weaknesses (defense, etc.) only for "damage control" (to get by, which they weren't bad in for the past x years).

I reckon though that it ain't that simple... especially since teams simply cannot be constructed to win against all opponents. The fatal flaw is overwhelmingly directing the team towards beating one opponent only (the Spurs) while forgetting that there are the other 28 teams to deal with (Golden State anyone?)

That is the key word here. If. If isn't going to fix anything now. Nothing is. Sarver and Kerr have dug the hole and started filling it in.

But hey its always darkest right before light.

That's not the point. The point is: sucKerr took a team that performed great but couldn't get over the hump (be it because of D'Antoni's stubbornness, bad luck, Stern, the Sp*rs being awesome [wow that hurt typing] or whatever you want) and made into a team that relies instead of teamwork on one aging former superstar, while wrecking the players who did many great things for the club in previous years (Bell, Amar'e and above all Captain Canada), destroyed chemistry, traded away important role players for nothing (though Sarver's cheap-assery played an important part in that, just like in the fact that we could have had Rondo, Igoudala or Deng and Fernandez, had he afforded it), need I list more? The Lakers might very well eb the best team in the league (though I hope for heaven's skae they're not because I'm quitting on the season then), but the Sns could still be a good-to-great team, if it had an owner who would be willing to pay for risks, a GM who is not the puppet of him, and if the (I hope former) coach had anything resembling a plan.

It's funny that the fairly common, tongue-in-cheek summation of the Phoenix situation by the NBA blogosphere is that Kerr is a San Antonio plant sent in Summer 2007 to destroy the Sun franchise. Too bad they picked the wrong franchise to wreck, but who could have foreseen the development of Bynum and the Gasol trade?
