azcentral.com blogs | PaulCoro: A talk to last a week.

Shaquille O’Neal on the recent changes: “We always had a shot to get it done. These guys were just used to one way. We tried to put them in an athletic culture shock. They really didn’t adapt. Some guys adapt quickly. Some guys, it takes time. Some guys don’t adapt at all. These guys like to play like that. Despite that, you still got to make stops. … Now, against the good teams, teams that play great defense, teams that have great chemistry, teams that are up there, that’s going to be the true test.”

I knew this would happen. Shaq’s not going to stand for this type of system. You know, the kind that doesn’t prominently feature the big fella and actually, oh, say, wins the freaking games? Say what you want about the weak teams they’ve faced, but the Suns are at least fearsome again. And if you’re winning games, who cares? Oh, yeah, the 300 lb $20 million liability. That’s who.

He should be excited this team is playing together and with life again. He should be saying he’ll adjust to whatever is going to give them wins. He should be saying this team should do whatever is best for the whole team. But instead? He’s talking about LA and complaining about a team, in a very patronizing manner I might add, that just laid down over 420 points in three games.

Sad, really.

This is probably the only non-moron thing Shaq has said in the past year.

Shaq has been throwing little barbs out there all season, trying to work his way out of Phoenix. He always gets a pass from the media (and fans) because he acts like a big kid. But really, Shaq is childish and acts spoiled. He doesn’t like to be a leader, until things are going bad but instead of taking it to his team and LEADING, he goes to the media and starts pointing fingers. He’s talking about getting stops, but he’s not playing that role!

The Suns won’t win anything with that style, yeah it’s nice for the regular season but long term and playoffs that system sucks. I don’t blame Shaq for feeling empty on this team, he has no place in that offense.

The Suns are in a honeymoon period but that will soon end, just like today with the butt whipping the Celtics put on them. If that system was so great why aren’t the Knicks,Raptors or Suns winning at a high clip ? They all believe in that system right ?

Hey DEEP3CL Do a little research before you jump to conclusions please. The Celtics whooped the Suns today because the suns have had 1 yes just 1 practice with Alvin Gentry and with reintroducing the old system. In the last 6 days they have had 1 practice and 3 games. Please dont be such a moron and compare knicks and raptors to the talent on the Phoenix Suns thats just pathetic.

How is this in any way a-typical of Shaq’s character?

the FatAss has a center of attention complex that has undermined most every team he’s ever been on.

An even bigger bummer is the announcement at the top of that article that its author, Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro, is on furlough this week. “Furlough” as in forced and unpaid due to the economy most likely. Found this article: http://news.ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=1025620 saying that most of the AZ Republic’s US employees had to take mandatory unpaid one-week furloughs this year. Given that Coro used the word “furlough” and not “vacation” suggests he was included in that, and it’s the reason fans are deprived of his coverage this week. Which is a major bummer because the guy does an awesome job and deserves to be paid for it.

Of course Nash was doing this all season long under Porter. One player doesn’t like the system and complains – no good…

Another player doesn’t like the system and complains – but he’s our hero..

Regardless of who you think is “right” they both did exactly the same thing at different times. And yes Matt, this team did win games and look happy and fun for a period of time this season. A 9 and 3 period to be exact….

Guess you can’t please all of the super stars all of the time…
