One Quick Thing About the Lakers/Cavaliers Game

It’s obvious that the Lakers are the best team in the league right now, and that’s without Bynum.  Sweeps over the Cavs and Celtics prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt.  Of course, their kryptonite is Orlando.  A very strong inside attack is a problem for the Lakers, but you knew that.

Thing I’ve Been Wrestling with Since Last Night

Is it worse for the Hornets that they can barely beat Minnesota when they don’t have Chris Paul?  Or is it worse for Minnesota can’t beat the Hornets even though they didn’t have Chris Paul?

My first thought was, “geez, the Hornets supporting cast is barely better than the Timberwolves.”  But then I thought, “geez, the Timberwolves aren’t good if they can’t beat this bad of a team.”  Then I thought, “geez, why do you think the word ‘geez’ so much?”  My answer: it’s worse for the Hornets since they’re supposed to be contenders.

Thing I Need Your Opinion On

I had a men’s league game yesterday.  The team we played was talking trash the whole time, and I just went about my Pau Gasolish business.  We were up by 15 with about 40 seconds left when I got fouled for some reason.  I went to the free throw line and sunk my first one.  For the second one I did this:

Most of the crowd was laughing, WHICH WAS THE POINT.  But, I definitely heard the other team saying, “how’s he gonna be disrespecting us looking like Luke Walton’s dad?”

Here’s where I need help; was this “disrespectful?”  In my mind, I’m taking the piss out of people caring so much about a men’s league, plus they’d been chippy the whole game.  I’m not too worried about it, but I’d like a ruling.

Thing That Makes My Wife Awesome

While discussing Valentine’s Day plans (DON’T FORGET) she said, “let’s do something during the day so we can be back for the Dunk Contest.”

Wild Yams: +1, even though I believe you meant Rashard Lewis

Wouldn't any team have a problem facing an opponent with a strong inside attack? I guess fortunately for the Lakers, the odds of them facing the Magic again this season are virtually nil.

Anyway, I think you're wrong in saying that teams with a strong inside attack are the Lakers' kryptonite. What other teams outside of Orlando have strong inside attacks? Houston? Phoenix? Minnesota? Boston? Cleveland? San Antonio? Toronto? Portland? Am I missing anyone? Anyway, LA is a combined 15-1 against those teams this year, with the one loss coming to San Antonio by one point; so maybe you should rethink your theory there.

Judging by their losses to Detroit, Indiana (they almost lost twice to them), Sacramento (almost lost twice to them too), and throw in Orlando, and it looks like their kryptonite may actually be teams with big men who can shoot the 3. Having big men who can defend the Laker bigs on one end while being able to pull them away from the basket on the other (thus opening up the middle), seems to be the way to beat LA. After all, yesterday Cleveland looked best when Big Z was hitting from the perimeter, and San Antonio can use Matt Bonner in this capacity as well.

I know around here everyone loves to say Bynum's & Gasol's interior D is overrated or downright stinks, but honestly LA has very good interior D. Their problem is when their seven footers have to suddenly chase guys like Rasheed Wallace and Reggie Lewis off the 3-pt line. That makes sense too, since guys that size probably are ill equipped to guard the perimeter. But if you think LA's interior D is bad, maybe you should ask LeBron James what he thinks - he sure never saw any daylight against the Lakers inside in either matchup this year, and he's unquestionably one of the league's biggest interior threats.

You guys are right. I totally forgot about them missing Chandler and West. Mo Pete doesn't really make that big of a difference.

Wait, wait, wait. So you're saying the Celtics, Lakers, or Cavs or any home court playoff team would have NO trouble with the T-Wolves with 4 of their top 7 players missing.

I call B.S.

Besides, you were up 15 with less than a minute left. Everyone knows it's over and it's just obligatory "pass the ball around to run down the clock" time unless there's a shot clock, so there was no reason for them to foul you at all. If you guys were really disrespecting them, your team would have been jacking up shots.

The Hornets weren't just missing Chris Paul in last night's game. They're also missing Tyson Chandler, Mo Pete and David West who was ejected.

The fact that the Hornets are still winning games despite that kind of catastrophe is pretty impressive to me, especially when those wins come against players like Al Jefferson.

If they were talking trash, it wasn't disrespectful. Just what they deserved. Maybe against team of good sports, that would have been disrespectful. Respect the integrity of the game.

I don't think you were being disrespectful at all. Sure, it's a league game, but there's no need to be so into it that you're just being a poor sport about it all. That and the "Luke Walton's dad" crack completely validate your actions. The other team just sounds like a bunch of wanna-be's anhow.

If you talk trash, then you open yourself up to whatever comes. Do I think you were being disrespectful? No. But even if it was, then they had to sit their and take it. Comes with the territory.
