Agree with Pete. The question is whether he’s better than A Johnson (the player most likely to lose minutes and who seems to have had a couple of issues with SVG in the playoffs anyway). Perhaps Johnson is better than a rusty Jameer – but perhaps not.

But SVG and the coaches have the benefit of seeing how his footspeed looks, how well he’s moving on defense, etc. They are also trying to win. Do you think that IF he plays it is because they feel he’s a worse option? I doubt it.

So if all he does is upgrade the quality of the minutes Avery would give them, I can’t see how this hurts the team. Unless Avery is more popular than Jameer among his teammates (and we know DH-12 and Jameer are good friends), I can’t see how this would hurt chemistry either. At the worst, Phil and the Lakers have to spend prep time for the player they couldn’t handle in the regular season – because even if not in Game 1, the Finals stretch for two weeks and who knows about Game 3, etc.

Jameer knows the system, had a shoulder injury and has been biking and running for quite some time (no footspeed problem), and it hardly matters on defense, as Derek Fisher is done and Jordan Farmar lost his confidence and hasn’t really played consistently since March.

Plugging a better player (and the Magic had a significantly better efficiency differential with Jameer) into a system he knows is always better. Imagine Manu Ginobili is out for half a season (impossible, I know…) and comes back for a series. Do you hide him because he hasn’t played in months, or do you trust that he’s the best perimeter player on your team, knows the system, and shoots lights out?

Duh.

Are we the only people that read this? How about providing statistics of players that come off serious injuries and measure the dropoff (or lack thereof) in production. Maybe people will read this blog if you tried harder.
