Let’s say that perhaps The Worst Possession Ever isn’t enough to convince you.
And the anecdotal evidence about his utter lack of leadership or even the ability to not create problems isn’t enough to sway you.
There’s now statistical evidence to support the theorem that the Grizzlies acquiring Zach Randolph was yet another in a series of absolutely wretched moves by the Grizzlies. It’s based off of analysis from this blog, specifically found here. Take note of this chart which takes a look at the curves of players of different years.
“But Matt!” you cry, “Even if his production drops, he’s still a 20 and 10 guy!”
Maybe so, but you should also consider how many minutes he’ll be getting. That’s likely to take some of the burn off of his ppg, rbpg, and apg numbers, but it’s going to severely damage his efficiency. And as we all know, efficiency is the name of the game.
At this point, what’s more likely? That Randolph is actually in such good condition that he’s able to outperform those with similar miles on them? Or that the production he’s shown has been a statistical fluke attributable to the teams he’s been on and he’s due to come crashing back to Earth, and under Beale Street all the while being extremely overpaid?
