Arenas will never be Chris Paul. Besides being as pure as point guards come, Paul is just dead-serious, even brutal, by nature. It’s like asking Melo to be Kobe. Arenas is his own kind of player, not just in what he can do—and there’s no reason to doubt his ability to be more of a distributor—but in how he approaches the game, what tone his actions take.

Certainly, this has an effect on his teammates. He’s a leader, especially with Jamison out. But first and foremost, Gil needs to figure out how to find some inner peace. As far as that’s concerned, a little levity never hurt anyone.

I kind of feel like this reeks of desperation. This isn’t Batman coming out of retirement, it’s like Garth Brooks crawling out of Chris Gaines’ chest to sing “I Got Friends (In Low Places). ” At some point, if he wants to be relevant again, the guy’s got to be playing great basketball for a good team. Gimmicks only go so far. That said, first game he lights up the Hibachi we’ll of course be falling over ourselves, so maybe we should just let the dude do what he wants.
