• Final thoughts: Strangely enough, I liked this performance. I thought the team did a lot of things right. The offense looked smooth, the defensive effort was there. Sometimes the Knicks get hot—as they did in the 3rd quarter—and make things difficult for you. And sometimes you miss a bunch of easy shots. Combine those two things, and an inferior team playing at home takes you to OT. No worries. Take the win and move on.
Um.
Where to start with this.
The offense looked smooth…I think the numbers pretty much speak for themselves. And you can talk about missing open shots all you’d like, but consider this. When the Celtics attempted to pound it inside, you know, for high efficiency shots that lead to foul sots, which are even higher efficiency? Shut-down. But when they shot 18 footers, like the one shot KG has left in his little man-purse, they knocked them down.
Look, this win sneaks in between impressive wins against Orlando and a Western Power, like the Blazers? No biggie. But this is the fourth game in a row where the Celtics have looked mediocre against inferior opposition, with two games of getting its ass handed to them by better teams (at this point). I’m not saying it’s time to panic, but let’s not slough off this “win,” like all is well on the good ship Shamrock.
If you want to talk about the real reason the Celtics are able to win games like this, this season? It’s not Doc’s coaching or Ubuntu or team confidence or any of that crap. It’s that Paul Pierce is the Truth. When you need a bucket and you absolutely gotta get it? Pierce’s elbow jumper is nigh on unstoppable. And against the Knicks, that was all they needed. And they shouldn’t have even needed that.
