This non-stop “Judas!” and “Antichrist!” posturing makes columnists and fans look naive, especially when Carter is far from the worst case of this in recent history. Let it go. For his part, Vince was “incredulous … and mischievous” when responding to the news that he was in the running for an honor. Of course he has a vested interest in taking it all in stride, but part of having a history is learning to put things in perspective. And in the past.

Yes, naive. For being passionate about a guy who screwed them over. And let’s not mince words. SCREWED. THEM. OVER.  Alonzo Mourning is my favorite basketball player of all time. But Toronto fans can boo the man every single time they see him. You know why? That’s their choice. What, moral righteousness about booing a professional sports figure? No one’s advocating throwing things at him, making him feel unsafe, or crossing any sort of line into his life off the floor. But the guy did the city wrong. And even if you don’t think he did anything wrong because you’re more sports-conscious, most of the people that attend games aren’t. They don’t spend their time with contracts and player movement and market size and all the rest of the crap we focus on.

I tend to agree with this: “Why some feel the need to tell people how they should feel is beyond me. If you want to boo Vince Carter who am I to tell you not to do that.”

Booing is fun, harmless, and part of the theater of sport. I get where Shoals is coming from here, but come on. Let them eat cake.

Also, Vince Carter sucks.
