Flash forward a month… while still waiting for said European contract, my agent called me THE NIGHT BEFORE telling me that I had a workout again. I had not played against NBA talent since my last workout, but I was still confident going in. I knew I was a good player and knew I was in shape. Then in walked Reggie Evans. Now I know what you are thinking…”Reggie Evans??!! But he’s not good!” Well…

A. Are you trying to make me cry?!! Thanks! I think I just died a little inside…

B. You don’t know how tough this guy is until he’s attached to your hip all game long.

via Hugging Harold Reynolds: Waiting for Godunk: My Tryout with My Hometown 76ers.

HHR has Kevin Owens (D-LEAGUE!) chiming in with his perspective now and again. In this little episode, he relates the tale of Reggie Evans crushing his hopes, his dreams, his manhood during a tryout.

It’s something I’m always startled with. I’ll be ranting on the phone to Corn about how X player sucks and doesn’t deserve the money he’s getting, and there’s a moment where I pause, and think, “Wait a tick. This guy is in the top 1% of basketball players. If you take all people in the world who play basketball at this point in time, he is in the top 1%.”

Then I go back to screaming about how a Collins brother should not have been signed.

But this is a good tale of how professionals really can just shut you down with their effort and know-how, and makes those that we consider good even more God-like.
