Broke my Patella a while back. 6 weeks to heal and my leg was severely atrophied aftewards and took a lot of rehab to get strong again. The first year I returned to sports I was a liability. Year 2 much better. Range of motion returned completely, but burst and jumping was never quite the same. I did go on to play college soccer but it took a little off my speed and a lot off my vertical leap. However, I wasn't a professional athlete so who knows what's possible with the best rehab possible. In any case I don't see him playing this year and expect next year may be subpar.

Recovery time can be as little as two months after surgery so it is possible he could be back by the playoffs or even sooner.

Breaks my heart. Other than the Lakers, Portland was my must-see team. I rooted for Oden, he was like my kid. But let's face it: He's the Sam Bowie. We knew when he got hurt and missed his rookie year after missing the start of his frosh season in college that there was a chance the dude was seriously fragile, then he got hurt in his first game and missed 6 games and another 20 later in the year, and now it is cemented. It's sad, like you said, for anybody who loves the league. I root for Oden because when he was in college he reminded me of a young David Robinson, I thought he'd lead teams to titles like Tim Duncan. This season he was showing serious signs. And now look. Meanwhile, Durant is averaging a 28-7-3 (at 21!) as the franchise guy for a rapidly improving Thunder team.

Sad day for hoops fans definitely.
