Tom, thanks for being willing to share! I calculated the eHeight of the frontcourt players of each team and compared it to the same categories. The correlations were actually smaller in every case, rebounding and defense, except for block rate. This sure makes those guards that keep opponents out of the paint look good! Here's the link if anyone is interested:

I put the effective height numbers together with Block Rate, Opponents At Rim FG%, and Opponents % of shots taken At the Rim.
There was almost no correlation in any of those categories either. Here is the link if anyone is interested:

I am hoping to follow up on GhostofRed's idea and calculate effective height for just frontcourts and then compare it to these same three statistical categories.

Tom, I hope you don't mind other people taking your data and running with it!

To piggyback on what Levy noted, the Lakers are very good at 3pt % defense, which suggests that it might be at least partially defensive strategy - in this case, being willing to trust Bynum and Gasol to alter shots without much assistance (which might have them as good-but-not-elite defenders at the rim), and instead staying home on the outside shooters?

Great stuff! What happens if you take the guards out of the numbers? Most of the rebounding is done by the frontcourt players, and there's a lot of variability in player height in the backcourt that doesn't have much effect on rebounding.

E.g., I bet most of the "short" teams have short starting PGs. Don't know how you weighted, but if you have a 6' PG who plays about 1/6 of the team's minutes (40 out of 240), would the entire team be rated 1" shorter than a team with a tall PG (6'6"). That's a lot of the variability between teams - there's less than 2" difference between the tallest and shortest teams! Along the same lines, the Lakers probably aren't all that "tall" because of D Fish.

And it's at the PG position where quickness and leaping ability is going to make the biggest difference for rebounding. D Fish and Rondo, I'm looking at you.

Maybe another interesting question is - does having a bigger frontcourt mean you're going to get more rebounds?
